Travelling in different month

There is lots of places to explore in this world

anuary. South Georgia and Antarctica

After learning about South Georgia Island and its remarkable penguin population, I decided to visit the island myself on a Penguin safari trip by Quark Expeditions. Located in the sub-Antarctic region, this remote island is only accessible by a three-day boat journey from Ushuaia. South Georgia is known for its abundant wildlife, including over seven million penguins, millions of breeding birds, and more than half of the world's southern elephant seals. The island is home to approximately 450,000 pairs of king penguins, 1.1 million pairs of yellow-crested macaroni penguins, and large populations of Gentoo and chinstrap penguins.

Why January?

January is the summer season in Antarctica and South Georgia, during which penguin chicks can be observed. It is also the peak time for tourists to visit Antarctica, so expect higher prices during this period. You may find my tips for planning an Antarctica trip helpful.

February. Mexico

Mexico is a vast country packed with so many attractions that it is nearly impossible to see them all in just one trip. I visited Mexico CityMeridaOaxacaPuebla, and other destinations during my two-week itinerary.

Mexico City and the ancient Mayan ruins, including Chichen Itza, stood out as highlights of my journey.

Swimming in cenotes, natural sinkholes connected to the underground river system of the Yucatan Peninsula, was also a memorable experience.

Why February?

In February, Mexico experiences pleasant weather, making it an ideal time to visit. As winter turns to spring, areas like Mexico City may have minimal rainfall and mild temperatures, creating perfect conditions for sightseeing.

March. Algarve, Portugal

March may not be the typical choice to visit the Algarve. Still, for those who prefer cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, it can be the perfect time to explore the natural beauty of the Algarve coast and wander through the region’s historic towns. During my visit, I particularly enjoyed discovering the towns of Silves and Lagos, as well as exploring remote coastal areas accessible only by boat, such as Ponta da Piedade.

Be sure to visit Praia da Falesia beach, nestled beneath towering red and ochre cliffs that reach heights of up to 40 metres. Its breathtaking natural beauty has been likened to the Grand Canyon.

Why March?

March in the Algarve typically sees temperatures ranging from 12°C to 19°C, providing a fantastic opportunity to explore the region without the scorching heat and crowds. For cooler evenings and nights, bring a light jacket or sweater.

April. Munich and Bavaria

Munich is well-known for its diverse art scene, impressive architecture, and famous beer culture, making it a popular destination for tourists in Germany.

In addition to its many attractions, the city serves as a convenient hub for exploring the surrounding area, including nearby lakesAugsburgFreising and Schleissheim Palace.

The region is easily accessible thanks to Munich's efficient transportation network, which includes local S-Bahn and regional train services. These options are affordable and reliable, offering fast access to a variety of nearby sights and activities during different day trips.

Why April?

April is a good time for hiking and cycling in Bavaria, with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 20°C. Late April is recommended as it falls outside the peak season and the weather is usually pleasant, though cooler days are still possible.

May. Montenegro

Montenegro is renowned for its diverse landscape, which includes mountains, historic villages, and picturesque beaches along the Adriatic coast. The Bay of Kotor is home to coastal churches and fortified towns such as Herceg NoviBudva, and Kotor.

Durmitor National Park features glacial lakes, the Tara River Canyon, and limestone peaks. The country's history is evident in its Venetian walls, Roman mosaics, Illyrian churches, Catholic and Orthodox monasteries, mosque minarets, and socialist-style buildings that dot its rugged terrain. Montenegro boasts a rich and varied cultural heritage shaped by centuries of civilisation.

Why May?

Montenegro, a small country, tends to become very crowded during summer. May is considered shoulder season, marked by fewer tourists and the chance to swim in the sea. The weather is warm but not excessively hot, with a lower chance of rain compared to earlier months.

June. Dolomites, Italy

The Dolomites, located in the northern Italian Alps, are a mountain range with 18 peaks over 3,000 metres and an area of 141,903 hectares. Known for their stunning mountain landscapes, which feature vertical walls, sheer cliffs, and numerous narrow valleys, they are a must-see for climbers and hikers alike. Designated as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2009, this picturesque region offers visitors a variety of high-altitude tours, long walks, and leisurely strolls.

Before setting off on your adventure, pack water, some food and wear appropriate footwear.

Why June?

The summer months of June, July, and August are the peak season for alpine hiking in the Dolomites, attracting the highest number of visitors. June tends to be less crowded than July and August. Please note that the weather in the Dolomites is significantly cooler than at lower elevations in northern Italy. In early summer, particularly in June, some hiking trails may still be covered in snow and certain ski lifts may still be closed.

July. Kuldiga, Latvia

Kuldiga, a town with a rich history dating back to 1242, experienced significant economic growth in the 17th century, becoming a prominent centre for trade, governance, and culture within the Duchy of Courland. The town's blend of historic architecture and natural surroundings creates a unique and harmonious atmosphere unparalleled in Latvia and beyond. In September 2023, the old town of Kuldiga and its iconic red-brick bridge over the Venta River were recognised and added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
