Folding Box Mold and Injection Molding Process

A short look at the production process behind a plastic folding box. The video shows the injection molding stage and the finished green box, including its grid-patterned walls, reinforced sections, and folding structure.

Plastic folding boxes may have a relatively simple appearance, but the molded structure contains many details that need to be reproduced consistently during production. The mold determines the shape of the box, including its walls, openings, corners, reinforcing sections, and folding-related components.

This video provides a short look at the production process of a folding plastic box. The footage shows the injection molding stage and the removal of the molded product from the machine. After molding, the finished green box can be seen more clearly, including its open grid pattern, reinforced upper edge, and structured side walls.

One noticeable feature is the repeated grid pattern across the side panels. Such openings are part of the product design and need to be represented accurately in the mold cavity. The upper sections and corners also contain shaped details that become part of the finished box after injection molding.

The folding structure adds another consideration to the mold design. Unlike a simple solid container, a folding box contains sections that need to move or connect with other parts of the product. The corresponding geometry therefore has to be incorporated into the tooling so that the molded components can take their intended form.

From the manufacturing side, injection molding connects several stages: the plastic material is introduced into the mold, the cavity forms the product geometry, cooling allows the molded part to solidify, and the finished piece is then removed from the tooling.

The final product shown in the video is a useful example of how mold geometry becomes visible in an injection-molded plastic product. Details such as wall patterns, openings, edges, corners, and folding sections can all be traced back to the structure of the mold.
